WHY CATHOLIC?
Why Catholic? is an adult faith formation program St. John the Evangelist is adopting in conjunction with the Diocese of Orlando. This program has a two-fold purpose: first, to help adult Catholics be mature in faith and well equipped to share the Gospel, promoting it in every family circle, in every church gathering, in every place of work, and in every public form; second, to be women and men of prayer whose faith is alive, grounded in a deep commitment to the person and message of Jesus.
This program is a four year program which is primarily conducted in small groups, for six weeks at a time, once in the fall-and once in the spring. This wonderful program will benefit many of our adult parishioners, and ultimately it will add to the quality of parish life here at St. John's.
Why Catholic Faith sharing Principles and Guidelines:
Our small Christian Communities gather together to share our faith and grow together as a community. In these faith filled communities constant attention is given to respect, honesty and openness to each person. Each person is allowed to share on levels he or she feels comfortable. Confidentiality is an essential part in order to allow each person to share honestly. The suggested format, in our Small Christian Communities, is sharing the Good News, reflection, scripture pondering the word, sharing questions, sharing our faith on a personal level, living the good news by our actions, and lifting our hearts in prayer.
In this third year of Why Catholic? the focus is on The Celebration of the Christian Mystery: The Sacraments and explores the importance of the Mass and Christ's presence in the Eucharist. The first four sessions focus on the liturgy and an understanding of the sacraments. The next two sessions examine Baptism, one on the sacrament itself and another on the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. The last six sessions look at the remaining six sacraments.
